Build the athlete before the season starts.
Get stronger, faster, fitter and better prepared for the demands of your sport with Fortis Physiotherapy's 12-week, physiotherapist-led Off-Season Strength & Conditioning Program.
WHY THE OFF-SEASON MATTERS
The off-season is an opportunity to build the physical qualities that are difficult to develop once competition begins.
It's time to build physical capacity, address weaknesses and develop the strength, speed, fitness and movement qualities required for performance.
The goal isn't simply to arrive at the start of the season injury-free. It's to arrive stronger, faster, fitter and better prepared for the demands of your sport.
PHYSIOTHERAPIST-LED ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT
A structured 12-week off-season program.
Designed for field and court sport athletes, the Fortis Off-Season Program combines evidence-based strength training, speed development, conditioning and injury prevention to help maximise performance while reducing injury risk before pre-season.
Each week includes two complementary sessions:
Session 1 — Strength & Conditioning
Gym-based training focused on developing strength, power and physical capacity.
Session 2 — Running Performance
Field-based training focused on speed, running performance, conditioning and movement.
Every athlete follows the same overall performance framework, with individual modifications based on injury history, movement quality and training goals.
HOW THE 12-WEEK PROGRAM WORKS
Phase 1 — Weeks 1–6
Build the foundation.
Week 1 begins with testing and establishing individual performance baselines.
Weeks 2–5 focus on building the physical foundations required for performance, followed by education and reactive testing in Week 6.
Week 1: Testing & baselines
Weeks 2–5: Foundation
Week 6: Education + reactive testing
Phase 2 — Weeks 7–12
Turn the foundation into performance.
The second half of the program places greater emphasis on speed and power development before finishing with re-testing to measure progress.
Weeks 7–11: Speed & power
Week 12: Re-testing & program wrap-up
WHAT WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS
By the end of the 12 weeks, athletes should demonstrate improvements across the physical qualities that matter for their sport, including:
Maximal strength
Lower body power
Sprint acceleration and maximal speed
Running mechanics and efficiency
Aerobic and anaerobic fitness
Deceleration and change of direction
Movement quality
Injury resilience
Confidence entering pre-season
INDIVIDUALISED. PROGRESSIVE. MEASURABLE.
A criteria-based approach to athlete development.
This isn't a one-size-fits-all training program. Our approach is designed to identify what each athlete needs to improve and progressively develop those qualities throughout the off-season.
We:
Identify what is limiting performance
Determine which physical qualities need development
Understand the demands the athlete needs to tolerate
Progressively expose the athlete to those demands
Monitor and reassess performance throughout the program
Adapt training based on individual needs and progress
